Bonaire is part of the Netherlands Antilles, which is an entity of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Bonaire (14190 inhabitants, capital Kralendijk) is, as stated in license plates, the diving paradise.

The island is in the shape of a crescent (see map below), and is largely desert. There are cacti everywhere, especially in the north of the island, where is the Washington National Park, bird sanctuary with no interest: we can just to see some iguanas (which will also everywhere on the island)! By cons, south of the island is more interesting, especially with the Lac Bay, which has beautiful mangroves.

There is a perfect visibility of 98 feet (30 meters) in clear water below the surface.
One of the destinations to visit, just to name a few, or is Playa Bengue Karpat, indigenous peoples who inhabited it, the Arawaks, they called Bojnay ("Lowlands").
It was also inhabited by groups of Indians Caiquetio. Underwater cultural heritage is constantly monitored by the Bonaire Marine Park.

In Bonaire, there are laws that protect the life of their Marine Park near the coast, coral reefs (which beauty can be seen in shallow waters just meters from the coast) and the species that live there: the wolf fish groupers, trumpet fish, angelfish, barracudas, sea urchins, hermit crabs, etc..

Fishing is permitted outside the coastal zone, and there are several species, including low abundant. For over  30 years, Bonaire has become the Caribbean island first to ban spear fishing, and shortly later banned on water corals. Bonaire Marine Park, a park created in 1979, protects all the waters of the island.
