The Lesser Antilles is the group of islands in the Caribbean Sea consists of the smaller Caribbean, forming an island arc in south-east of the Greater Antilles , which runs east of Puerto Rico to the west coast of Venezuela.

The islands are part of a long arc of volcanic islands, most of which are located around the eastern Caribbean Sea on the western boundary of the Atlantic Ocean, some of which are in a corridor southeast of the Sea, just north of South America.

Administrative feature
The Lesser Antilles more or less coincide with the outer edge of the Caribbean plate, and most islands have been formed as a result of subduction, where one or more plates of the Atlantic has slipped under the Caribbean plate.
Politically, the Lesser Antilles are divided into 8 independent island country,
three British territories overseas,
2 French departments overseas,
two overseas territories of France,
3 autonomous country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Netherlands,
3 special municipalities of the Kingdom of the Netherlands Netherlands,
1 insular United States,
and two federal agencies in Venezuela.
The main languages ​​in order of importance in the Lesser Antilles are in English, French, Spanish, Dutch and Papiamento.


Geography
The highest point is La Soufriere 4813 feet  /1467 m on the island of Basse-Terre, in the archipelago of Guadeloupe. The trench is the deepest ocean in the Atlantic 30216 feet /9210 meters is located along the northern U. S. Virgin Islands.
Lesser Antilles
Extends from 5523sq.mi /14,307 km ², the total population of the Lesser Antilles are nearly 3,970,000 inhabitants (2006), with 1.36 million in Trinidad and Tobago.

Climate
The warm tropical climate is pleasantly tempered by trade winds, more or less constant throughout the year. These winds are interrupted only by a few storms over the Atlantic Ocean. Inside, the climate is slightly warmer and cools with altitude, and humidity as well.
However two types of stations:
The cool dry season (December to June), the period known as Lent.
The wet and warm (June-December) called for the hurricane season.
