Aruba is an island of the Lesser Antilles, the group Sotavento west 25 km north of the Paraguana peninsula in northwestern Venezuela, the southern Caribbean Sea, east of the peninsula of La Guajira (Colombia) and just west of the island of Curaçao.
He was part of the Netherlands Antilles, although January 1, 1986 is an autonomous country within the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
Aruba is not part of the European Union like other European territories that share sovereign status, and Greenland (Denmark), French Polynesia (France) and the Cayman Islands (UK).

However, other territories outside Europe of sovereign countries in the European Union, which are themselves an integral part of it (ex: French Guiana in South America).
